Networking Events

Here's a recount of a few of our past events!

Institute of Chartered Accountants Australia Vacation Recruitment Networking Lunch

The ICAA Vacation Networking Lunch went off with a blast! Eager students, whether penultimate or not, made registration lines bend around the corner for their little elevator speech with the top accounting firms’ HR recruitment teams. Those who were smart pre-registered and were the first to network with some of the Big 4 like Deloitte and Ernst & Young or other mid-tier firms like Grant Thornton, WHK Horwath and BDO Kendalls.

Whatever your preference, representatives were present all-round with Deloitte Graduate Recruitment Manager, Samantha Walton, presenting tips on submitting a top application. All attendees were well fed (which I’m sure was an equally important reason for attending!) as people actively networked amongst their peers. Like others, this event was an invaluable opportunity for me to discover the small nuances about different firms’ unique work culture and their differing views on the elusive work-life balance, or the opportunities available down the line (for you non-penultimate year students).

Whether you were a hardcore accounting student, or a finance student trying to pass off as an accounting student, this was the event to be at! Even if you’re not eligible for the programs onoffer, an accounting student, or one considering an accounting major, these events are still useful to get your tongue rolling for when you are eligible for such programs. Remember, HR recruitment teams are omnipresent in the world of business; take every opportunity as a learning experience to be ready for the business world that lies before you!

Accounting Internship BBQ

This was COMSOC’s second Accounting BBQ of the year, and the student turnout was enormous as usual. Sausages, onions, bread (sorry no Helga’s here), industry specialists.., you name it, it was there. It was a unparalleled opportunity for all those students who wish or are still considering to major in Accounting, to have their questions answered, hesitations rectified, and doubts completely washed away. Or it might just scare you away from Accounting forever. Just kidding!
