For the purposes of this document, the term "UNSW" refers to the University of New South Wales, the term "BSOC" refers to the University of New South Wales Business Society and the term "user" refers to persons access accessing the BSOC website, unless an intention to the contrary is explicitly stated.

BSOC values the privacy of its users, members, and others who visit and use (collectively or individually) the BSOC website and any other services operated and/or hosted by BSOC. Personal information collected will be used only in accordance with the terms and conditions of this Privacy Policy. This Privacy Policy describes the information that we collect from the user and how it is used. We will not sell, rent or lend your personally-identifiable information or a list of our members to third parties. Your use of the BSOC website and any personal information that you provide will be subjected to the terms of this Privacy Policy and our Terms of Use. This Privacy Policy applies to all services that are hosted on the BSOC website and/or hosted by BSOC.

All personal information collected is solely for purposes which directly relate to a function and/or activity organised/hosted/operated by BSOC. Under no circumstances will personal information be used for a purpose not directly related to the purpose for collection, unless consent has been obtained for other uses. Any personal information is collected directly from the individual with the exception of IP address, browser version and operating system version. Members have access to their personal information which may be updated by the user to ensure the information is accurate, current and relevant. BSOC holds no responsibility over any personal information disclosed by the user himself/herself to third parties.

Information BSOC Collects

Member provided information – You may provide to BSOC what is generally known as "personally identifiable" information (including but not limited to your full name, username, email address, student identification number, date of birth, gender, mobile number, university degree, intended major and so forth) when you register as a Member and when you choose to participate in certain activities organised/hosted/operated by BSOC. In addition, you may choose to send private messages (PM) to other BSOC Members or to post certain information to your public "profile" on the BSOC website such as general location, interests, occupation, website URLs, videos, blogs, IM addresses, and comments.

"Cookies" Information – When you visit the BSOC website, we may send one or more cookies (small text files containing a string of alphanumeric characters) to your computer. BSOC uses both session and persistent cookies. A session cookie is sent when you log in to your account by entering your username and password and is used to recognise you as a user if you visit multiple pages in our website during the same session. This is so that you are not required to re-enter your password multiple times and disappears after you close your browser or log out. A persistent cookie remains after you close your browser and may be used by your browser on subsequent visits to the BSOC website (these can be removed, please refer to your browsers "Help" section for more details). These allow us to recognise you as a BSOC member if you return to the BSOC website using the same computer and browser.

"Automatically Collected" Information – When you participate in the forums or access any part of the BSOC website, we may automatically record certain information from your web browser. These include internet protocol addresses (IP address), web browser type, web pages/websites that you have visited immediately prior or after your session at the BSOC website, the pages you viewed on our website (including dates and times) and type of operating system, which may be unique information regarding yourself. This is due the standard functions incorporated into the communication utility of the World Wide Web (www).

Our Use And Disclosure Of Information

When you choose to create/update your public profile on the website, you will post (of your choice) certain information that will be publicly displayed to other Members of BSOC. BSOC uses the information that we collect to operate, maintain, enhance, and provide to you all of the features and services available on the website. We will use you email address, without further consent, for administrative purposes such as sending you account activation emails, welcome emails, notifications and updates.

BSOC uses all the information collected to understand the usage trends and preferences of our Members, to improve the appearance, features and functionality of the website. "Automatically collected" and "cookie" information may be used to monitor aggregate site usage metrics such as total number of visitors, pages viewed, and to track your posts, entries and submissions in any games and contests.

BSOC does not sell, rent or share your personal information with third parties or third party organizations for marketing and/or promotional purposes without your express consent. BSOC may disclose Member Information if required to do so by law or in the good-faith belief that such action is necessary to comply with state and federal laws (such as Copyright law) or respond to a court order, judicial or other government subpoena, or warrant. We may make such disclosures, in some cases, without providing Members notice.

BSOC also reserves the right to disclose Member Information that we believe is appropriate or necessary to take precautions against liability; to protect BSOC from fraudulent, abusive, or unlawful uses; to investigate and defend ourselves against any third-party claims or allegations; to assist government enforcement agencies in investigations of any illegal activity; to protect the security or integrity of BSOC; and to protect the rights, property, or personal safety of our Members or other persons.

Changes And Updates To The Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy may be revised periodically without further notice to you and this will be reflected by the "last modified" notice below. Please revisit this page to stay aware of any changes. In general, we only use your personal information in the manner described in the Privacy Policy in effect when we received that personal information. Your continued use of the BSOC website constitutes your agreement to this Privacy Policy and any future revisions.

For revisions to this Privacy Policy that may be materially less restrictive on our use or disclosure of personal information you have provided to us, we will make reasonable efforts to notify you and obtain your consent before implementing such revisions with respect to such information.
